Paul Butcher, who represented Mr Advani, and who worked with Adrian Eissa and Tom Wainwright of Garden Court Chambers, was pleased that our clients’ ordeal finally ended, but was not pleased with the outcome. The decision to imprison Mr Advani will be subject to an Appeal, as it is felt by his legal team that the sentence is excessive.
Mr Advani, who accepted his guilt in offences which date to the days prior to the formation of the Crown Prosecution Service, is facing a term of imprisonment of 16 months. He returned to the UK to face charges, and to be re united with his family after suffering a stroke in West Africa where he had bee living for over 20 years.
